Kiku Healing Series: The Sound(s) of Fierce Vulnerability
Friday, August 28, 2026 from 6:00PM - 8:30PM @ JAMsj
Join us for a special sound bath session that centers on healing through vulnerability and introspection. This program will invite guests to engage in healing through deep and vulnerable reflection. We encourage guests to examine themselves and their surroundings, and make connections between the current rotating exhibit on the redress movement - how we heal in community and work through trauma as a collective and individual. Featuring special guest speaker Kazu Haga, author of Fierce Vulnerability, who will drive forward conversation about healing through introspective and vulnerable reflection.
After the 30-minute speaker session, guests will transition to the JAMsj main gallery for a 60-minute restorative sound bath amongst the artifacts and exhibits. To close the experience, we’ll offer an optional reflection circle—a welcoming space where participants may share anything that arose for them, or simply sit in community and quiet presence.
About the JAMsj 聞く(kiku) Healing Series: 聞く (kiku) is the Japanese word meaning "to listen", but can also mean "to ask". The Kiku Healing Series is a collaboration between JAMsj and local healers to introduce various methods of healing and wellness rooted in Japanese traditions and seeks to engage participants in discourse around healing as individuals and as a community, cultivating deep listening and curiosity about about what is around us and what is within us.
About the Exhibit: House Meeting(s): Opening the Door for Redress in San Jose
House meetings were informal gatherings held in people’s homes, where friends, family, and community members came together to talk, listen, and organize. In San Jose, these meetings became an important part of the Japanese American redress movement, creating spaces of trust before conversations moved into broader, more public settings.
House Meeting(s): Opening the Door for Redress in San Jose brings together multiple stories from a San Jose perspective to focus on the people and efforts that supported the redress movement across the community, including those working behind the scenes.
Rather than presenting a single, fixed narrative, the exhibit reflects the varied ways people engaged with and sustained the movement. These stories show how participation took many forms, often outside of formal leadership roles or public view.
Please note, the sound bath portion of this event is about 60 minutes long. If you are unable to lie down for 60 minutes, please indicate in the "Memo" section to request seating.
All proceeds will be used to directly fund the overhead cost of the program, to compensate our healers and for future programming.
This event showcases various healers from the San Jose community.
We come together and create a unique experience each time. Mixing different elements, various instruments, vocals, and techniques based on the availability of the sound healers for each unique event.
Come join us for a unique experience, each and every time.
